Everything about the iPhone 15: Release Date and New Features

iPhone 15: Release Date

We already have the release date for the new iPhone 15, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and the Apple Watch Series 9, as well as the much-anticipated iPhone 15 Pro, the crown jewel of their premium line: September 22nd, 2023. But what do we know about it? Is it really worth buying, especially if we already have a recent model? What’s its price and new features?

One of the most striking changes in the iPhone 15 is that it finally bids farewell to the Lightning connector, making more efficient use of screen margins and adopting a titanium finish.

Release Date and New Features of the iPhone 15

New Design, New Colors

Taking the iPhone 15 Pro’s design as a reference, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models also stand out for their rounded edges that fit comfortably in the hand. Instead of titanium used on the edges of the Pro model, these devices opt for aluminum and feature a tinted glass back, a special process that enhances its durability.

From a purely design perspective, these devices are extremely attractive thanks to a new color palette. They are now available in pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. Additionally, they come with the new iOS 17 software.

But the most notable change in the design comes with the new customizable action button. Although by default it remains a volume switch that toggles between silent mode and sound mode when pressed, it is now fully customizable to open the camera, start recordings, or even execute shortcuts.

Better Screen

As for the screen, a significant improvement has been made by increasing brightness to reach 1000 nits of typical maximum brightness (in the iPhone 14 it was 800 nits) and an impressive 1600 nits of peak brightness in HDR (compared to the previous model’s 1200 nits). Also, like the iPhone 15 Pro, the screen can reach an astonishing 2000 nits of peak brightness outdoors, perfect for using Maps under direct sunlight or taking photos in full daylight.

Goodbye to the Lightning Connector

Undoubtedly, one of the most awaited changes in this generation is the inclusion of the USB-C connector across all models. In these iPhone 15s, the USB-C connector uses the USB-2 protocol and offers transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps, exactly the same as the previous Lightning connector offered. However, even if a faster cable is used than the one included, the maximum speed will remain 480 Mbps.

Better Camera?

The camera, which has 48 megapixels, remains unchanged from last year’s model. These are the only iPhones capable of capturing images in ProRAW format, and they also introduce a higher resolution function. It is now possible to capture images in a 48-megapixel mode and HEIF format, which promises greater sharpness, in addition to the standard 12-megapixel mode with pixel grouping.
