5 Ways Smartphones Have Changed Christmas Forever

Can you imagine Christmas without cell phones?

It’s funny. It’s only been a few decades since smartphones entered our lives and, to this day, we are absolutely unable to imagine what life (and Christmas) would be like without them.

Today we wanted to take a look back and we asked ourselves… How have smartphones changed Christmas over the past few years?

1. More memes, fewer calls

Christmas Eve may be one of the few evenings when you sit down to have dinner and celebrate with your family leaving your cell phone away. But surely before dinner you will be sending a few greetings on your phone… and surely many of them are going to be memes someone else sent to you before.

Because, let’s be honest, what’s the point of calling that “friend” you haven’t talked to in ages when you can just forward them the meme of the cat with a Santa hat (or something worse), just like you will do with the rest of your “friends” (we mean those you only text when it’s either Christmas or their birthdays)? Exactly.

Anyway, the most important thing this holiday season is that you don’t want to run out of credit on your cell phone, right?

2. Waiting for 10 minutes before eating…

If you don’t have a family member who won’t let anyone touch their dinner until they’ve uploaded about 50 Instagram stories showing the world all that delicious and lavish Christmas food, that family member is you.

And the thing is, if it’s not on Instagram, it didn’t happen, right? Even if that means eating a cold dinner…

And speaking of Instagram, are you still not following us? If you don’t want to miss any of our promos and have a laugh or two with our memes, head over to our Insta now!

3. Santa, this year I’ve been very, very good… where’s my smartphone?

Every year Santa’s gift sack gets more and more loaded with smartphones, smartwatches, wireless headsets and all kinds of tech gadgets. At least with this you can’t get the size wrong!

If you’re on a tight budget and this year you’re giving a second-hand smartphone as a Christmas gift, remember that it’s always a good idea to check it beforehand if you want to avoid last-minute surprises. Can you imagine Santa bringing your niece an iPhone that has been blacklisted because it was stolen? Cringe!

4. Traveling is not traveling anymore unless you Instagram it

No matter where you’re traveling this holiday season, you are going to want to be connected to the world. Because why would you travel if you can’t make your friends jealous on Instagram with the best Christmas selfie ever?

But beware, you may need to use a SIM card from a different carrier in the country you’re visiting, did you know that? And that SIM may not work on your phone if it’s not unlocked. So when packing your suitcase, make sure you’re travelling with an unlocked cell phone.

5. Now you can be closer to those who are far away

One of the ways smartphones have changed Christmas (and in this case for the better) is that they allow us to be closer to our loved ones, even in the distance.

Whether you’re more of a caller or a video caller, if this holiday season you want to stay in touch with family or friends who are elsewhere in the world, why not send them some air time? That way they might call you! Or maybe they’ll just forward you a meme… We hope it’s the former.
