What to do before switching?
- Check coverage
National coverage maps in the United States rank T-Mobile as one of the two best carriers in terms of coverage. However, you should verify if the T-Mobile network, especially the new LTE, is available in your area.
In any case, T-Mobile offers its new customers a coverage guarantee month. That is, if you’re not satisfied with the network after purchase, you can return the phone within a month for a full refund, including service costs.
2. Calculate costs
The second step is to calculate the cost of switching from AT&T to T-Mobile. If you have a contract, you should consider the early cancellation charges that you’ll have to pay AT&T for canceling the contract earlier than scheduled.
The good news is that T-Mobile will cover a percent of early cancellation fees. For this, you’ll need to print and deliver to T-Mobile copies of your “Final Bill Statement” at AT&T.
3. Check discounts
The third step is to verify that you’re eligible for discounts at T-Mobile. For example, if you’ve served in any of the armed forces, you’re entitled to discounts on the network.
4. Transfer your number

How do I switch from AT&T to T-Mobile?
Step 1: Back up your old phone to save content before switching to T-Mobile.
Step 2: Unlock your AT&T account by removing any passwords so that T-Mobile takes over it.
Step 3: Visit the nearest T-Mobile store to request a switch. You only need to bring your current account PIN and wireless bill.
