Most people have heard of Apple’s Find My iPhone Activation lock or iCloud lock, but not many people are aware that Samsung has the same function.
Samsung’s Reactivation lock, also known as Factory Reset Protection (FRP), is a security feature available on all devices running Lollipop 5.1 or higher preventing others from activating the device if it’s ever reported lost or stolen. With Reactivation lock enabled, the owner of the cell phone will be required to type in their Samsung account username and password prior to factory resetting the device.
This feature is not the same as the PIN or password required to access the device when it has been turned off or due to a period of inactivity.
No third-party unlocking company can disable the Reactivation lock on a Samsung Galaxy. We have lost count of the number of times we have been asked for the Samsung account username and password. This information can be found on your device or contacting Samsung.
